cheapest place for remoulds

you know how they make remoulds? The result is a tyre with a much thinner sidewall that won't stand up to enthusiastic cornering or high speeds. I'd rather have some chinese real ones on there than crap remoulds. I've had about 4 blowouts in my life and 3 of them were on remould tyres.

That wasn't my experience with them some years ago. I started road rallying an MGB, and found that the sport often takes us off road in forest, quarry, private land etc, and immediately found that stones just slice through the sidewalls of standard tyres. I then discovered that remoulds were popular in the sport, Colway in particular. Started using them and had no more problems, and found they could really take abuse in a way that a standard tyre never could. The sidewalls seemed to be particularly strong.The biggest problem with them was lack of consistency in quality, particularly when Colway were in financial trouble. I bought a set just before they (unknowingly) went bump, and they were real ditch finders.
I can't see the point in remoulds now though. If you do want to skimp on possibly the most important part of your car, why not buy part-worns. After all you already have a set on your car anyway and they can be amazingly cheap.

They are for a Hyundai Sonata....I dont see enthusiastic cornering or high speeds high up on the agenda.

thank you awooga. where will i find cheap chinese tyres? probably pay up to £15 each if delivered.
