VW Passat R36 or...?

I'm having a wee look around for a fast estate to lug my dug around (a Giant Malamute) and something that I can take advantage of on the occasional blast around B-roads, but 90% of the time it'll be sitting outside my house as most of my clients are 15 minutes (and £2.40 return) on the train from my home/office front door.
While the option to lease a new Jaguar XF or Merc CLS estate is tempting, as mentioned, the car is unlikely to get much use.
I noticed that the R36 seems to offer quick performance at a fraction of the cost of a similar used quick Audi. I also know they are rarer than rocking horse sh!t, so sourcing a decent one could be a quest.
Has anyone experience of the R36 or the 3.2 Fourmotion (which are a lot easier to find)? Also any good independent VW garages for servicing around Glasgow?
Or any other suggestions for a big, reliable & fast estate (my dug's around 55 kilos) up to the 12k mark? No hot Subaru Legacy suggestions, purleaaaaase. Been there and would have been cheaper running a Bentley!

never really liked the v8 S4 that much, a bit too laid back if you want something sporty and a bit thirsty if you just want something laid back with a bit of oomph. Plus the gearing is a little bit odd in the manual and a bit long in the auto. The later 3.0 supercharged S4 is a proper weapon though!Goatex said:

just had a look at how much these are going for and it's not much at all for what they are. Do a couple of mods and it will bury a standard R36 while being as stealthy as they come (plus people will think you're an undercover police officer!)Goatex said:

I had a Heico-kitted out Volvo 855T5R when I lived in Holland (around 300bhp). Despite their 'image' they are very quick and built like a brick privy.A last model V70R (circa 2007 onwards?) with the atacama leather option would be ideal, but finding any without 6-figure mileage and consequent wear & tear would be tough I guess.

I don't really know the Audi range that well, so I'll have a look. I was sort of using the RS4 and RS6 as a comparison. I did a fair amount of research into the RS6 and with notoriously dodgy adaptive suspension they can be money pits. I'm just looking for a solid, reliable dug lugger that's probably unlikely to do more than 5k miles a year that can perform quickly when I want it to (and when there's little chance of the BIB being around, of course!)cheddar said:

Aye cheers, Cheddar. Went and had a look as it wisnae one I was aware of. Saw a couple on sale for £20+k. The chances are, I guess, that I'd get raped by depreciation while it was parked up in front of my house?
Aside from that (and please don't label me a badge snob), on the very occasional time I would use it for business, turning up in a VW, Audi or Volvo wouldn't worry me, but I'd likely park a Skoda round the corner and walk.

Fuel consumption isn't a huge consideration given the likely low-mileage. Right brand image, but I'd be wary that any clunk or rattle would lead to deep sucking of air by the local mechanics, a few tut-tuts and then a rapid fire inventory of 2 grand this and 2 grand that parts required on a car like this.Probably need your own personal oil well though
