How Can I Find Out Car VIN?

Afternoon all,

I'm thinking about buying a car and its full service hsitory has been done by the same garage in Inverness. They are happy to provide me with info on the car but they cant find it on the system as the car used to be on a private plate and I don't know what that was?

They need the VIN number to run a check. Is there a way to get the VIN number by using the cars new reg?

An HPI check will usually show up any change of reg.

Can't the person selling it tell you what the VIN is or what the private plate was?
