It seems odd this place is closing and, as I understand it, now being converted to residential properties.

It seems to do well all year round.

I know Stewart Spence is retiring but I'd have thought it would have been sold as a going concern.

I suspect the "value" (as in what somebody will pay, not necessarily what it's worth) of the land is higher to developers than its value as a going concern.

I always thought that the Marcliffe was one of the best hotels around Aberdeen. Very surprised.

Stewart Spence spent years trying to sell the place as a going concern. I can only imagine he wanted more than the market would pay.

I loved the Marcliffe ...... when I had my RS4 I used to leave home nr Glasgow and travel their via Braemar, Glenshee, Balmoral etc, stay over at the Marcliffe - have a great night there - and travel home the next day via the same route . Great memories awesome road - sad (and surprised) it's closing .

I suspect the land there is too valuable.

I remember many a wild night there at the annual Aberdeen Uni Medical Society party. Probably a bit too wild in retrospect.
