I agree. House has quite the talent in aligning himself with various victims groups, and using their issue as a call for more Police powers. All at the background of what is actually a falling crime rate, Officers with firearms on the streets and a force that seems to delight in using hammers to crack walnuts.

Add in zero accountability, and it's incredibly worrying.

Must have been a good spot from behind if it was just a brief sneek peek. Maybe it wasn't so discreet and for the brief second your brother claims. Often when people get caught for these things, they are selective with the facts.

The law isn't quite so clear cut. It's the way it is interpreted that is harsh.

The interpretation seems to take it over a threshold where merely touching or looking at something is using it.

It's crap but a fair cop. I got 3 points for swiping my phone and pressing the speaker button whilst it was in the passenger seat, not picking it up, at about 11:30pm on a deserted bit of road.

It sucks but still used it, I suppose!

Seems a little harsh but the amount of people I see still with phones plugged to their ear whilst driving with one hand is ridiculous (latest one today) so I can see why a zero tolerance policy is probably in force. Can’t really grumble, we all know the law.

I've done this myself and it does sound harsh. When I was a Special Constable in Glasgow we only issued tickets if the person was observed to hold the phone to their ear - and 9 times out of 10, the individual in question would deny it which actually got to me after a while. I don't know if the legislation has changed since then or if the guys I was out with used their discretion but now it seems that if you are observed to even hold a mobile device you'll be charged.

Like another poster said, there are still plenty of people flouting the law and more often than not, they are easy to spot due to their erratic driving.
