I'll be in Edinburgh in a few weeks and have the Saturday afternoon free

There is no football, so looking at a real Ale bar type place.

I'll be in EH8, but central is OK or Leith

Any recommendations please

Especially if there is a place that sells good stout or porter

Thanks

I'm near the Auld
Might give the regent a miss, gay bars not my thing, but each to their own

The Regent is the most welcoming ungay gay bar going and has some of the finest kept ales in Edinburgh.

You could try a couple of tap rooms, e.g. Moonwake and Newbarns, both in Leith. Both do very tasty stout.

I'll try Auld as its near to my accommodation
Guildford and sister pub will be on my list too, sure guildford was on you tube a few weeks ago

I've mapped others out and might try the two places in Leith

I'll report back but a big thanks to all who contributed

Stockbridge Tap, Cloisters both excellent but can be busy. Cumberland not as good as it used to be for real ale/craft stuff. Lost in Leith and Campervan taproom worth considering. Dreadnought has a huge range - although it seems far away, it is 5 mins from a tram stop that takes you back into the centre of town in 20 mins. Highly recommended. Otherworld has just opened a bar in Leith Walk with a large number of taps, but I've not been yet.

Thomson's Bar on Morrison Street near Haymarket is a good 'un too.

And the Oxford Bar, Young Street.

For a change of pace/something different, get a 26 bus down to Porty and try the Porty Tap and Forrester's Guild.

So I'm back from my weekend

Thanks for the recommends.

My time to have a sneaky beer was more limited than anticipated.

Guildford, very bus and loads of guests dining
Auld House, coupe of visits and right next to my digs, recommended for range of beers

Newbarns, my favourite place of all visited, great atmosphere

Thanks once again, this is what I like about PH
