Can you chaps and chapesses post some photos of your rear underwing for 400 and 450 SE's, and 390 SE's - I'd like to see how mine compares.
I think the 400 is blanked off at the centre section with only the end pieces actually having an airflow over them - is that right.
Maybe someone has some photos of the back end of mine from the gathering at Hatfield Peverel recently - one or two of you said it was a bit different underneath apart from the rear wing - which I think could be 390.
cheers!

On my 450 it is part of the main body mould and it is only a small area each end that has any airflow over it.
Does anyone know whether they do actually produce any downforce and if so why the change on the later SE's ?

The 390 ones will produce a little down force but hardly any because the underneath of the car is not smooth and so the air is very turbulent. The change was for ease of manufacturing because it didn't do a lot anyway; a shame that route was taken instead of making the underside of the car smooth.
The SEAC is also great for collecting water and dissipating it over unsuspecting pedestrians as you pull away with full right hand lock
Have been tempted to make mine adjustable ala racer's
but the said water does come in under the soft-top!!
May do it anway as they do look a bit "flat"

I don't know whether previous 390SEs (mine was Feb '85) had a complete undertray and whether any after mine did - Streaky

Must admit I've toyed with the idea of modding mine so it swings up and down on servos, just to wind up the Max Powa crew
As it doesn't really do anything anyway, it couldn't hurt...
Also have a few 'James Bond' ideas for the Esprit. I was thinking of paintball guns behind rear the number plate, for those who drive too close...

I've never heard that before and I've never seen one with an aluminium undertray but it does make sense. Does anyone know of a car like this or have any photos?
Er - well
Some of you had the right idea - for the others I was talking about the rear underwing, not the tea tray on the boot.
The 390 should produce some downforce even if the air under the car is disturbed. Just get a piece of card and wave it through the air as I said in a previous thread.
Keep the photos coming. Many thanks.

I was slightly wrong, it wasn't fitted ex-works. Quote from the road test of my car in Fast Lane June 1985, "The first service also gave TVR the chance to fit an alloy undertray to the car. Only the second one to be installed after the demonstrator, it should, according to MD Stewart Halstead, help it to a top speed approaching 155mph."
Does anyone know what happened to the demonstrator? Claire (Gaffer) can you or your Dad remember?
