Standard shocks are Koni, one of the best, difficult to adjust though.

You can do this but cost is likely to be £100/bhp. You need the top end to breath more so cam, bigger valves, ported head, carbon fibre trumpts and plenum, bigger air flow meter, then re-chip and rolling road to get that lot to work. For the cost of the work it's probably worth comparing to the cost of a 4.6 maybe with your heads on.

all depends on how much 'more' you want, one of most cost effective mods is making sure its set-up correctly now. A Mark Adams session to check fuelling is usually worth it. After that a short trumpet base and then some head work.

The 400 SE should have decent heads to start with, they port them well and port the lower part of the inlet manifold but leave the trumpets as standard, this is where easy gains can be made, i assume that its a hotwire car in which case any upgrades should be accompanied by ECU re-map.

FWIW - when my 390Se was converted to Hotwire the factory fitted a 4.0lt non-cat chip to the ECU. Seems that the engine also acquired a new cam (from TVR Power who also overhauled the heads at the time). I've asked the then "owner" if he can recall what cam was fitted - Streaky

Streaky, probably a kent 214 or TVR version/ grind of this cam.
It may have been originally fitted with a "hotter" cam when it was used as a demo car.

....... more free advertising for ACT and Mr Adams .

When MrsH's 400 had its restoration last year it included an ACT trumpet base and a "Tornado" chip .... car has much more oomph and much smoother

No change in insurance as brakes and suspension were uprated at the same time

Tim - quite possibly (re "hotter" cam), the penultimate factory "owner" tells me it out-reved other 390s - Streaky
