Well, 18 months of Wedge fun... All good things have to come to an end so my 350i is on the market. Nothing wrong with her. Trouble is that it's too good, if that makes sense. My buzz, apart from driving, is to tinker. I like to get cars back to the way they were when they were made, and there is nothing more I can do! So, when it's sold I'm going hunting for a 60's Yank. Possibly a Mercury Cougar or Mustang to tinker with. Am I mad?

I'm sorry, but surely, "back the way they were" and, "too good" are mutually exclusive terms where early Tivs are concerned - Streaky

So let me get this straight, you're going to swap one v8 sports car for a US 'equivalent', that will handle worse, be less reliable, and has less credibility than a wedge?

Yeah right...

Oi! early Tiv 350's are fine; apart from the brakes, and the manifolds, oh, and the cooling systems, and the fuelling problems, and, erm, ah, OK, as you were...

Yeah, but weren't they like that when they were new?

I have had several Yanks in the past and yes they have V8's like the 350, but its all more "how cars used to be". Loads of grease nipples to fiddle with, lights that never get through an MoT without work, white wall tyres, plastic steering wheels with acres of pressed steel and chrome and that wonderful smell of plastic seats... Need I say more?

If you are going for a yank, how about a seventies Corvette, either the flat rear deck, or the glass sloping back (changeover year 1978)?

That is if you really must part with the wedge. At least a Corvette is fibreglass.

Yo Father Ted Dude . See I knew someone in Wedgeland would know what I mean. Then there are Superbees, or I could polish up the old Dukes of Hazzard air horns, dig out the confederate flags and get a Charger.:smoking:

An old Corvette would do the business too, but they are just silly money.

Still waiting for interest in the Wedge anyway, so don't worry just yet chaps...

PS Mid Beds TVR Meet Sunday 20th. It's in the events forum. Wedges especially welcome. I'm fed up with hundreds of Griffs turning up and just my Wedge!

Errrrmmm.... Well, on Saturday I went to the American Car Summer Nationals at Billing to see what American hardware was for sale... Not a lot that took my fancy, but what I had forgotten was why I stopped going to Yank shows. It was the people! So, it looks like my options now are,
[1] Keep the Wedge or
[2] Get an American classic , together with extensive tattoos, piercings to several areas of my anatomy , take up smoking , buy cowboy boots , leather waistcoat , confederate flag neckerchief and at least two pit bull terriers , oh yes and a girlfriend called Tracy who only owns skin tight jean with those marks that make then look worn out, white stillettos and traffic light red lippy, complimented by real or optional fake sunset orange tan.
Forgive me Wedgers. I have sinned . I will cancel my ad immediately.
PS. 2 Wedges at Mid Beds Meet yesterday...

I have to admit that the coolest looking car of all time has got to be a 1949 Ford Mercury......

The only worthwhile America cars are:-

Original 1954 Corvette
Original T'Bird
Later split window Vette
Later later 454 Vette

Early jellymould Cad Eldorado
1970's Eldorado
4 door Lincoln Continental (conv preferably)

one or two others - Chrysler/Dodge Hemi etc

Shelby 350/390 Mustang - the best of the lot! Bottle green of course!

Not really my thing, Yanks

You haven't mentioned the 1973 Mercury Montego GT with a 351 Cleveland lump...

I did rather like the '64 Ford Falcon I had a few years ago. 289 cubil inch (4.7 litre) V8 with little in the way of mufflers... Lowered slightly and classic American Racing alloys.
