Had a great time today, thanks Andy.
But on the way home the blower on the heater stopped, works on the first setting but not on the second.Checked the fuses but there are all ok,then i got stuck in traffic and the fans didn't come on close to home so i was ok.
Could this be connected ? or two seperate faults?

Any ideas guys?

Took my heater switch apart and the 2nd speed contacts had melted. So removed the contacts.
Recomend a fan overide switch, easy to do. Saved me.

Better qualify the heater switch comment. There are two metal rocker's. One does the speed one, the other speed 2. The 2nd one had over heated and melted the casing and the contact was lost as the contact had moved in the melted plastic. Mine needs a new switch and connector for the rear of the switch. The rear connector had also been affected by the heat.

Doing the fan overide is easy but best bet I found is to get a few wires with lucars onto the otter and extend them out of the nose, then using piggy backs extend the wires to a switch near the dash to short the otter should the temp get high and the otter not cutting in.

Also to test the otter, short it out with the ignition on, fans should come in.

Steve, I have heard Rimmer do them. Its on the list but other probs to sort first. The switch is a lost cause for speed 2. Too deformed. I took the second rocker out to avoid any problems should it be trying to make contact and heating up some more.

I need a new one but me overheating is taking first dibbs.

For the overide I used a switch from Halfords and a bracket of alloy knocked up from some scarp to hold the switch. Located it near my right knee near the bonnet pull and used down for on etc like a light switch.

Edited to add, its easier playing with the otter with the bonnet off.

For those whose heater fan switch still works , it might be worth using my mod. to prolong its life: disconnect the fan from the 2nd switch position and connect to a relay. Supply the relay from the switch and fanny is your auntie...

If you're lucky Steve, the switch may be savable - depends on how badly it has melted. Sometimes it's just the contacts have arced badly.

Interesting. Need a new switch first though. There are spare rely slots in my fuse board as well.

If it's a slide switch, it's likely to be TR7 - Streaky

Steve ,

Here's the link to Rimmers:

www.rimmerbros.co.uk/

Used them several times , very quick .Not had to change any switches on ours , but they are very like the Scimitar ones which regularly melted . They came from a Princess "Wedge"

I did an overide switch for mine after my fan failed to operate on day 2 of Wedge ownership! I wired mine from via a relay to a rocker switch which fits neatly on the LHS of the indicator switch housing.
