The good news - finally the car is registered although not without a near divorce sized bill for getting it roadworthy (and after paying good money for an inspection before buying by a specialist who found nothing major !).
The bad news - after the first trip longer than 5 minutes I parked the car up and walked into the office.
10 minutes later someone walks in and says did I know my car was starting by itself and there was smoke coming out of the bonnet.
I was able to stop the smouldering before it developed into a fire - lucky really as if it would have happened in the garage at home I would need to have fought my way to get to it.
The starter is now just a molten lump and most of the cabling near it has disintegrated. Turns out the 5mm gap between it and the exhaust is not good enough to allow the heat to escape. I had seen this and thought that if it had been ok like it previously it can wait till I make up a heatshield. Obviously the car had not been like it before or had only been run in -20C conditions.
When it was taken away on a flatbed I had to endure comments from the WRX and Z crowd I had been ribbing for the past 6 mths like does TVR stand for Tow Vehicle Regularly. One of them asked me when did the fun start with owning a TVR or was this the fun part.
NO this is not fun !

Chunder, hope it gets resolved. The same thing happened to me many years ago when I had a 350i. Tannoy announcement about "would the owner of reg number ******** please go to their vehicle" etc. I discovered the car had driven itself across part of the car-park due to a fault with wiring and me leaving the car in gear! At least it didn't hit anything else.
