Is the fan actually coming on? Does it cool down again when you get moving above 50 mph or so? Have you checked the water level and bled the engine and radiator?

Yes the fan works fine the temp does come down slightly when cruising at 50 but only by a bit and thats with the fan on constantly have also checked fluid levels and blockages all ok there too.
Have just this week replaced fan belt to as old one was slipping. The water pump has a grindy noise to it.

Could be an airlock. But I'd check the thermostat to make sure it's opening ok.

If your car is backfiring your timing may be out which may also account for the overheating.

Could have overtightened the alternator belt???.

Check to see if there is any play in the water pump shaft.
