I think my fuel pump is on its way out as today i started to notice a slight buzzing sound coming from the rear. Obviously if it needs replacing i'll get it done, but is it likely to fail completely in the near future or is something i can leave until the anunal service in October?

Is that buzzing or ticking/drumming which they do if they are very very low on fuel.

Mine is doing that since I bought the car about 4 years ago. I can only hear it outside the car, inside no noise other then what TVRs should sound like. I even use the noise to check, when I have a temporary rough running of the engine, that it is not caused by the pump. When the fuel tank is less than 1/4 it makes more noise.
That mine is fine, is unfortunately no guaranty for yours not to fail.
It is possible to do a stall test (see bible), and less pressure than 40 psi the pump is probably on its way out. Mine can do double! And I suspect it has been replaced (and upgraded) by the previous owner.
