Hi,

Took delivery of my first TVR, a 390SE purchased from a friend, just over a week ago. As if to confirm my fears about TVR fragility it's broken already - the seals on one of the clutch cylinders have gone. Not a big deal, and something I'm sure I can fix myself (I've done plenty of MGB clutch cylinders and it can't be *that* different), but I've no idea what parts I need. Does anyone know what part numbers I need to ask for to get the right seal kits?

Cheers!

I would contact RT racing for a replacement slave / master cyl (less than £50 each if I remember) as I tried new seals from a Rover which did not fit at all.

Is it the slave cylinder? if so I may have the single seal that you need if you can take a digi picture of the cylinder then I can see if I have the one. I got mine from Rimmer Bros and took me 1.5 hours to do.

Very good of you to offer. I'm pretty sure that it's the master cylinder, though. I topped it up with fluid when it was almost empty, and the clean fluid became black very quickly. I'm assuming that if it were the slave it'd be harder for any of the disintegrated seals to reach the master cylinder?

If the master cylinder you may also find a puddle of fluid on the drivers mat,
I was convinced it was the slave or the pipe, replaced both and still leaking, was looking at something else in the cockpit and noticed some liquid on the floor which tasted like brake fluid ! Changed master and since all been leak free

Any auto factor should be able to sort you out with a set of seals, they're only std Rover SD1

Cool - I did wonder if it might be just a standard SD1 master cylinder. That ought to make things easy. Thanks for that.

Incidentally, gsx600, what *does* brake fluid taste like? :-)

If you look on the side of the master (or slave) cylinder you should see a number cast-in. This is known (surprisingly enough) as the casting number and will be something like 64676310. You should also find another number elsewhere, eg 70. This tells you that the bore is 0.700". Armed with these numbers, get onto a Lucas-Girling stockist and ask for a seal kit. Usually about a fiver for the slave and a bit more for the master.
You could try Powertrack on the web, they are Girling specialists.
