Just looking at changing the exhaust and noticed the centre silencer does not fit centrally between the two chassis rails - offset to the drivers side by atleast an inch or so and angled slightly.
Is this deliberatley so or has it been badly fitted previously?

My silencer is like that i.e. not quite central and angled slightly. No concerns - but check that the ends of the silencer strap do not vibrate on the chassis tubes on tickover. It is essential though to get the rear pipe laying horizontal across the car to the exit tailpipe. That is where angling the silencer may help.
My system back from the 2 manifold pipes is the wedge automotive s/s fitted by previous owner in 2000.
Are u fitting it yourself and what type will it be?

I had to have mine adjusted and still needs a new stud replacing at one of the bobbins.

Cheers,
Took the silencer off tonight and its clearly been touching the chassis over 2/3rds of its length. Clearly this is because one of the mounting brackets has been fitted to the wrong (outer most) stud on the drivers side so should be an easy rememdy - though i reckon it will still be offset slightly!

Yup fitting myself and the exhaust is the result of a few evenings spent with a welder and some inspiration from nacnud's side exit sytem...

This must be for V8's, For the 2.8i babies the "O" rings are Cortina: TIMAX partUNR5AW or another ref is 420165. The next mounting back is "D" shaped and comes from an Allegro (TVR wern't proud!)TIMAX BLT6AM, or alternatively 420056. I got mine from a local exhaust centre.
