Hi all
Does anyone know anything about this stuff: www.fertan.co.uk/ or can anyone recomend an equivalent that they have used ? I'll be having a go at the old chassis over the winter.

I second the POR reccomendation. All of the POR products i've used are bloody good.

just a note...With the anti-rust paint it bonds best to a rough surface, ie a sandblasted chassis.

Have got some photos of my chassis PORed if you want.

Iain

I'd be very interested in seeing any pics . Does this stuff react with the rust as I won't be taking the body off to do any blasting down to bare metal.

It does not react with rust. The idea is to form a water barrier and a rough surface helps with adhesion. Unlike Hammerite it does not fall off

Just wear latex gloves!!

And don't let it get in your hair, or go through your clothes. It will not come off EVER, until you either shed it or cut it out.

Mrs Z was not happy with my lumpy black hair do, or with the bald patches I had after. (Beckham may have gotten away with it, but not me)

Mainly to second what the others have said; it's very good. Also a lot easier than Hammerite to spread without pin holes but takes a bit of effort to mix. NB the latex gloves comment is no joke.

I've some photos of my rolling chassis painted in silver POR, however it does appear to have grown a very minor green tinge on the bits that get exposed to sunlight, only a cosmetic issue though i'd wager.

I'll scan them in and email them direct, cos i can never figure how to post photos up on PHG.

Hi - I used fertan on the bare bits of my chasis and it works a treat. It reacts with the rust to form an enamel that turns blue/black and will repel any water thereafter. I've just had my outriggers done and will coat them with Fertan to ensure lasting protection.

Highly recomended.
