Gandalf's posting on boot gas struts got me thinking...I need new struts for the bonnet on the Wedge (it keep closing when the engine's ticking over and I'm fed up carrying the broom handle!). Any ideas where I can source some from?

Thanks

Old style Range Rover tail gate I think. I'm sure someone will soon shout if that is wrong. I tried loads of different ones on my car and they were all WAY too powerful. It makes sense that RR ones fit as they are relatively "soft" as they only need to raise a small, glass panel up on the RR.

I ended up getting mine from RT Racing back in 1997. They were adjustable ones which worked a treat. In fact, one of my mounts on the bonnet sheered off a couple of years back (not the gas struts fault), and I found that one strut was enough to hold the bonnet up anyway.

That glass panel is quite heavy and the RR struts are way stronger than TVR spec.

Same goes for the RR strut. One new one (£7.50) and one old TVR unit hold my bonnet up nicely.

Tallbloke if we dont get definitive answers to these struts I do have a manufacturer who produces struts to any pressure or length in either mild or stainless steel and will be checking prices with them once I have measured mine up - will post details later.

I was thinking about this... The ones in my wedge boot are not strong enough to lift the boot lid plus the spoiler.

I am making arrangements to send the manufacturer one bootlid and one bonnet gas strut from my 400SE (with spoiler) for them to copy sizes accurately and they will fill them to the correct required pressure.
I am getting quote for basic high carbon steel and stainless steel and also filled for life and refillable units.
Whilst stainless steel refillables will obviuosly be the most expensive they should never need replacing - just send back for refilling as required!

Keep you updated as things progress.

Steve, if you dont want to remove one of your bonnet struts I have my 2 old ones somewhere in the garage that you can use.

I found a great match her in the states for my 85 280i struts. The name of the company is J.W.F. Technologies in Cincinati Ohio. I'm sure they have a website but I don't know the address. The 2 struts I bought for my bonnet were part #752886.
Hope this helps
