Sorry if this question was already asked (I searched the forum but too many topics are containing the word "engine")...

What is the meaning of "JE" before the engine number (mine is JE1062)?

And an additional question, I thought that the 390SE was supposed to have an "AR" engine, so is this engine at its right place in a 390SE ?

I think you will find that JE denotes John Eales who is an engine builder, Andy Rouse only built the first 10? engines.

Thanks a lot. The previous owner said that it was an "Andy Rouse" engine so I was expecting an "AR" trademark...

My engine number is JE 1060 - 390 SE Oct 1985.
I was told it was the first of the JE engines in 390s after the Andy Rouse engines. I have heard that John Eales built all the AR engines but later on supplied the factory himself directly. I spoke to Chris Schirle about this and he raised his eyebrows as though it wasn't true.

And mine is november 1985, so it seems ok... it's a LHD and the chassis number says it's a 350i (but the english and spanish papers stated it's a 390 SE).

I think you will find that most of the V8 wedges of that era were '350i's, something to do with type approval maybe?
