If it's cheap, do it. If not, tell me where it is and I will

Head gasket is a piece of cake on the V8.

Ian

Edit: Hang on, how does it run well with a blown head gasket?

Do the head gasket, relatively cheap to do, use composite gaskets as they seal better, do both banks and check the pre-loads on the lifters after refit. All subject to knowing why the head went in the first place of course.

Easy repair job though due to removal of the exhaust manifolds and intake it can take a wee while. I would advise fitting the same style of gaskets that came off. If the 'tin' style then refit if compisite ditto - don't swap as there is a mild compression ratio impact as stated when my 4.6 was built by Ray at V8Devt. Ray tends to fit the tin head gaskets and the tin valley gaskets and provided you re-torque the heads after a run in period then all should be well. Ray fits the tin valley gasket as the wolverine one can delaminate and drop snot into the engine though it doesn't leak as much! Don't forget to get new exhaust manifold gaskets - I use the latest Land Rover ones as they seem to seal better. If the manifolds are off check the mating face on them is good as often they are irregular. I had the one's on my 400 SE and then my SEAC skimmed before refitting to the engine.
Worth doing the job - a good weekends worth!
