3 weeks into wedge owner ship next job.The radiator fan switch is bypassed so the fan runs all the time i guess it needs replacing or is it more sinister? I intend to rewire with a manual over-ride switch in the car and see what happens. If the switch is just goosed i will fit another. Here is where i start to worry. The switch is a push fit into a boss brazed onto the metal down pipe from the engine and held in by a cable tie! Please somebody tell me its a blind hole and there is not just a cable tie preventing the under bonnet area being resprayed with coolant.

Can't advise - as the normal place for this is in the side of the rad .. but a sensible 'known' mod is to move it to either the upper or lower rad pipe..

I would immagine the sensory was to be in the water flow to work correctly..

Mine is still in the Rad !

Sounds like the installation of Kenlowe thermostatic switch installed in the top radiator hose is the simplist solution. Other makes of these switch are available.

I have installed this to overide the otter switch on the radiator, and allow me to control the temperature when the fan switches in.

Lots of people have installed over ride switches in the car, but I have stuck to the therostatic switch only as it is a lot easier to install.

Hmmm. A bit worrying. The best bet is to fit the factory mod. of welding a nut into that pipe and fitting the standard threaded Griff temp sensor. Weld up the hole in the top of the rad..

It may not be as much of a problem as it looks.
I had a similar set up on A Reliant Scimitar. The fan switch was a push fit through a rubber grommet into the side of the radiator. I found this out when I tried to pull the wires off and it came out and covered me in water.
I pushed it back in and worried about it and checked it often, but in ten years of hard use including boiling up in traffic, it never leaked or gave any trouble at all.
So - Good Luck.
