This is what the engine of a TVR is when it wakes up in the morning - loud However, at 6.30 in the morning it would appear that our new neighbours do not have the same opinion

Is there an actual noise limit on cars or not? bit of a grey area in our neighbourhood!!! unless of course your name is Dickymint - but I have no doubt that he's right.

Hi Sam tell them to off or i'll bring my car round

There is a noise test, but your Wedges will pass no prob.
Maybe you could take them out for a spin, this way they might want one

Eh, speak up, can't hear you.

Had to make a few long journeys that meant starting the car at 4:30am. That didn't go down too well with across the road.

On the basis of the threats recieved I had a trawl through the usual and there were a few reference as to when excessive noise becomes a problem and what it can be, lawnmower is one example used. Don't have the links anymore but it was one of the government enviormental type ones I think?

Mowing the lawn at 4.30am might well disturb the neighbours too.

They should be grateful, I know many people who wish they were woken to the sound of a soothing V8 every morning.. ok so most of them are on here..

FYI - Vehicle noise is covered under the Road Traffic Act 1988 which is enforced by the Police and complaints and queries would be directed to them.. although I would be inclined to put it under "Entertainment Noise"

This thread reminds me of stories about people who move to the seaside and then complain about seagulls making a noise!
And those townies who move to the country and complain about village church bells!

They did`nt have to move next door did they!

In France, the max noise level for your car is writen on the car's papers, so my 390SE is supposed not to be noisier than 99 dB at 3940 rpm...

Compared to the "official" value of 108-109 dB it's pretty low (even lower than my friend decated Chimp) but 99 dB is high enough not to be called "the whispering wedge", and it didn't disturb the neighbourhood...

And i thought that they came over and sat with us in the pub to be socialable!! The girl is living there full time and was quiite friendly. But the P**&K with the attitude whent straight into a blatant attack on noise abatement.
Needless to say i very diplomatically shook my verbal baseball bat at him and pointed him in the direction of the local constabulary.
Things took a turn for the worse when he proceeded to slag off my pride and joys heritage (the Tivs not the wifes). That was it, he had to go!! No doubt our paths will cross sometime today - I feel a fettling session comeing on
Not one to hold a grudge they will be getting their festive season card through the letter box..............

BBWF Venue 2005 if Ettington is not available perhaps

They've just had a taste of it Jeff and Linda payed us a visit in their Very Loud 400 en route to the SWTVRCC Christmas bash. Parked right outside their front door

Done a spot of research on speed plod & the law.....
Seems i'm ok as long as its not modified, has an mot but.....The catch all one is at Reg 97 which states no vehicle shall be used on a road in such manner as to cause any excessive noise which could have been avoided by the exercise of reasonable care on the part of the driver.

So as long as i don't Chav it its ok?
As if i would

Sounds to me like we should have another Xmas gathering in your neck of the woods Rich - then he'll realise he has nothing to complain about on a normal day to day basis..

It's just about consideration. I used to feel awkward taking the TR8 in/out at anti-social hours as my neighbours house was really close, like 12 feet away!

I had to drive inbetween both houses. Talk about rumble and reverberation. Always kept the revs down and did it as quick as I could A daily situation would have caused a lot of friction, rightly so. I can't stand diesels starting up in the mornings or transit vans. Should be a law against them

Noise! Always made me laugh when we ran the SD1 rally car as the scrutineers would look in the window and ask us to rev the V8 to 5000rpm whilst the chap had the noise meter a metre from the exhaust. As electronics engineers we had a factor 2 circuit on a switch so the car was doing 2500 rpm and the tacho read 5000. The scrutineers would often say this seems quiet for 5000 rpm and we'd say, it's a V8 mate - smooth engine. Most other cars they saw where high reving 4's.
We did get screwed once when a scrutineer was randomly stopping cars mid event and using his own tacho and clipping it on to the alternator - Loadsa wire wool stuffing needed!!
He, He. Great car until it landed upside down in a ditch in Dyfi on the Welsh Rally in '89.
