One of the jobs over winter is to take out the dash and heater box as it only blows air down to your feet. The flapper mechanism seized up some years ago and I thought I had freed it up, but I suspect it has broken something in the box. So I thought I would replace the wiper wheelbox at the same time. The one that's in does seem to have some play and I have tried rotating the gear 180 deg so I think it's time for a new one.
I can see from the Wedge parts list it's a Lucas part number 72965.
Does anyone know a source for these new? I don't want to fit a second hand one as it will probably be as bad as the one that's already in. Or know what other car they were fitted to. I suspect TR7 as the motor is very similar.
Cheers

My wiper motor looks like the one in the Holden catalogue, part number 040.150 a mere £199 . Claims to be used on Cobra and Caterhams. Sure you want a new one now?

I think he's on about the actual spindle that the wiper arm fits onto. It's hidden by the heater, a real arse-on to get at.

Ah,

On the same page in the Holden catalogue are detailed instructions on wheelbox identification - price is £35-£45 depending on stub height and teeth.

Hope this is more helpful, Jim

The motors and wheel boxes look very very similar to those fitted to most Brit cars of the 50s, 60s and 70s and 80s as they are usually Lucas units. The main differntiator is the number of teeth in the wheel house and the drive motor as this defines the wiper sweep. In otherword don't go by external appearances.

As to what they are from... No idea

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will have to take out the old one to match it up. Would rather have sourced one before hand as I can see the car being off the road for weeks while I try and get hold of one.
Does anyone know what happened to the parts that the Factory apparently sold?

Steve, cheers. Just spoke to them and were very helpful. I need to identify the number of teeth in the wheelbox, so will have to get the old one out. Even if the original part is not available they seem confident that something can be sorted out. I'll update the post to let you all know how I get on.
As parts like this are getting harder to find I think it's important to find companies like this, that can supply alternative bits.
