Well, there I was looking at the TVR in the garage this afternoon when I started thinking! Always dangerous! I'd just removed almost all the interior trim (only dash+ front seats left). Hmmm, there's only a few bolts, and a small (ahem) list of bits to disconnect/remove and I could take the body off

Now, I know I've pondered it before, but what worries me this time is I think I'm serious and do have another week before I'm back at work.....

I do have a to do list which would be made much easier without the body in my way.......

So, should I or shouldn't I?!?

Off for a beer now!

cheers
Dave

The list will grow.... and grow....

A week huh?

If you really want to do all the chassis overhaul at this point, have you got the time/finance to complete the job and get it back together if you find unexpected things that must be attended to under there?

Don't do it unless you have to.

Having said that, if you go for it, give me a shout and I'll help you lift it off.

I figure I'll end up with a long list, but hopefully a much better car at the end of it!

The week will just be the start of it, I figure a week to get it removed and start fiddling in daylight, followed by a few more weeks of evenings and weekends. Then an intermission of 2months for a shoulder operation. Then a bit more......

Thanks Rog, appreciate the offer and you may well live to regret it as I've been wondering who to recruit for the lifting.....

As far as work on it once removed goes. Chassis to clean, repair, paint, etc. Got the other outrigger to do and tidy up welds from the first one I did! Then rear suspension work+wheel bearings, diff seals, gearbox repair (bearings) or maybe swap and some other stuff I appear to have forgotten after too many beers

Will prob end up replacing a load of nuts, bolts, pipes, etc.......

cheers
Dave

The problem is that once you start the list just keeps growing. Once I had repainted the chassis I found it difficult to bolt old rusty bits to it and so ended up reconditioning or buying new for everything else.....from my experience it's going to get expensive and take lots of time.

Took my 280i series 1 FHC into RTracing today,
for them to have a lookover.

I now have everything crossed.

The trip down was fine, apart from a couple of times when the throttle stuck fully open when overtaking.

Interesting !

I had that same experience on my car.

1st it was the outriggerss, which led to getting at the the sill plate bolts. I then decided to discard the carpet as part of the process becuase they were old and rotting, then I decided that the whole the interior needed replacing becuase there were some tears here and there. The laqueur on my paint work began to blister last summer so I 've started working on the bodywork for a respray, the instruments need overhauling as the speedo is dead. Then there's the veneer and finally....to get the car to pass its MOT - sterring UJs and rear brakes!!!!!!

Long list of jobs but all do-able over the winter months.

Probably a work in progress knowing me

I seem to be quite good at taking her apart, who knows how long it'll take to put her back together......

thanks Rog I was beginning to despair at getting the link to work! She's quite bare now, almost all wiring disconnected, plumbing done, sill covers off, petrol drained, etc.......

Well, I need to replace at least a couple of sills plate, maybe the outrigger too, not examined too closely. The one I did 18months ago is looking good still, which I'm happy about.

I'll endeavour to keep you all bored with photos as she progresses.....The visible lack of progress may speed me along, though I will have the excuse of only having one arm for at least 2 months!

Indeed I am, checked the forecast after it started getting a bit grim outside and decided against it. Ah well, there may as well be a delay now till around April, but it is getting done, question is, will it be in time.........

I have two engine cranes if you get stuck.
Could probably lend a hand with the shell-lifting as well. Be an excuse to take Julie to York
