This has been getting gradually worse. When the cars upto temp the low oil pressure light will come on when it's at tickover.

This is a pain because I have to stop the last few feet with the handbrake to keep the revs up !

I've tried to increase the tickover but the screw seems to be at it's maximum.

Any ideas ?

The oil warning switch is meant to come on at about 7psi, assuming it is working correctly, what poressure does the guage show? and what is the idle speed?.
I would have the car checked out by a specialist ASAP just to be on the safe side.

It's not unknown for the oil light to flicker when idling on the low side (below 800) and when the engine is also hot. My old 3.5 rovers did this as well.

You might be more prone if you're running anything thinner than 20W/50 on a high mileage engine.
