design and size of Wedge -v- S chassis

can anyone tell me the chassis measures of the Tasmin? Does anyone know to what extent the design and size of the chassis differs from that of the S?

If you can wait until Saturday, I can give you the exact dimensions for 400SE chassis, and the differences between it and a 350 chassis.

IIRC it's 9 feet 9 inches long and about 5 feet 5 wide...

Front is different. Back is different. The middle is not the same at all. The suspension mounts are not in the same place. The engine mounts are further forward but apart from that the all use the same basic idea. The diff and steering rack mounts are different as well. The rear arrangment for the fuel tanks is not the same and I seem to remember that the Tas is slightly wider.

They are very very very different designs.

cheers Steve. Was going to mail you but see you dont have that option in your profile. Do you know if the engine mounts are of a similar width to those in the S? ie - if an engine fits the wedge will it theoretically fit into an S ok?

Seeing as the S1/2/3 used the same V6 (albeit in 2.9 form later on) as the 280i Wedges you would hope so!!!

This wouldnt happen to do with a certain chassis on a certain online auction site would it?

Yes, but the V6 may have been a squeeze in the Tasmin and have a load of space around it in the S. The fact that the same engine was fitted to both cars doesnt necessarily mean there is the same space under the bonnet.

Nothing to do with anything thats for sale! just weighing up some options.

The V6 fits into the Tasmin type body very easily.
