RT Racings Super-Wedge to Take On All Comers!
Discussion
Visited Richard Thorpe at RT Racing in Sheffield yesterday and was treated to a guided tour of the new 200mph Nascar powered 'Thorpedo' Super-Wedge he is building for Steve Hall to race with this coming season.
The two seater features an amazing set of custom made side pipes and the sound is absolutely mind bending.
The car is that quick that the engine has actually had to be de-tuned to 600bhp with 540 lb.ft of torque!
Richard says this is the fastest Tasmin in the world!
When I challenged him and asked about Steve Heaths 520 bullet - he muttered something about 'third gear' & 'rear view mirror'! I'm sure I don't know what he means...
Maybe they should both have a race?.....

I think it was fairly obvious that as soon as they opened the race series up, some 'specials' would emerge.
How long before we see a Subaru 4wd system in a wedge...?
Only minor probem with that is the big vertical box section connecting the upper and lower wishbone mounts, that area is weak enough as it is on a wedge without cutting a big hole in it.
I thought about a xr4x4 conversion on mine cos my spare engine came with the sump differential attached.

I've always though the 400bhp was about the limit that the rear driveshafts / weak top link (drive shaft UJ) could talk.
So - if RT has more than this then I guess that Richard has a new solution... perhaps he is using the 4 point attachment that the Griff/cerb/Tuscan uses..
Remember Harry's post

Saw that in the pre-race listings in this months Sprint and wondered. Apparently sitting on a race Tuscan Chassis with a Tasmin body , wolf in sheeps clothing me thinks

The thorpedo will be interesting, we are running a book on how many corners Steve will make before making a hole in the armco
 Hi Steve.. The Series title classes ( currently A & B) are restricted to only parts from that model series i.e the body, chassis, suspension and block must come from the same type of car i.e all wedge parts all s parts etc so an ajp powered wedge wouldn't currently be valid in those classes.
The invitation class ( which the Thorpedo runs in) is more open but cant take the series title and has its own point structure) is more flexible. The basic outline is tvr body and chassis with an engine block used in any TVR. There is also some discretion with reguards to engine by the organisers...
The Thorpedo makes it in due to wedge body, tuscan chassis/suspension and the chevy block is basically the same type as fitted to the (holden) in the white elephant and the 660 seac. tenuious i know but valid and interesting...
I think a 4*4 scooby powerd vixen would struggle for an entry...
There are also apparently a couple of Cerbies prepped/ nearly prepped who may come out to play later in the season Plus the 3000m from last season is booked in for a few rounds.
My old taz should be out ( ITs available for hire - did i already say that ?) at some rounds.
I expect next season may see a 3rd higher BHP class, not a problem for me the tuscan will take a lot more power than im pushing through it with my standard Chim Engine...

It’s well worth the effort to come and watch the racing this year, we have some new cars and drivers out there and a great range of tracks to race on. Combine this with the fire snorting cars which will race in invitation class and you are guaranteed a good day out. Our ball busting super wedge will make it’s debut on the 2nd round at Brands we will run last years turbo car at the first event at Silverstone (after that the old girl is up for hire). If you do make any race days make sure you come and say hello to us all in the paddock, the drivers are a friendly bunch (especially when drunk) and all are welcome

MMM Richard I think you need the words "Thorpedo" in large pink letters somewhere on the car
Not forgetting some sharks teeth
I'll second the come along and say Hi. I hear the series sponsor are also doing a raffle at each round for spectators. Pop along to the paddock. Find the toolsnstuff.co.uk banner register your name and you could win 40 quid in vouchers

p.s. if you do win anything mine's a pint for the tip
