Nah, very common and very cheap paid about £15 for a new one a few years ago.

Unfortunately I can't actually remember what cars they're off but I suspect it to be the usual eg. Minis, MGs, many Triumphs etc.

Try Rimmer Bros. The Spitfire lamp looks a likely candidate.

www.rimmerbros.co.uk/cgi-bin/rimmer?spitfire/elec#Headlamps

Best bet would be to ring them up with the part number handy (if you have the lamp out) if not, ring them anyway I think thay've sold bits to TVR owners before

Bob.

It's a bog-standard 7" Halogen unit. Vehicle Wiring Products do them amongst others, or you can find them on Ebay.
The Esprit uses 5.75" sealed-beams; I bought a supply of them from Ebay last year, because you can bet your big-end that Hellsfraud staff would gve you blank looks if you asked for one...

I ordered mine direct from my local LAE Valeo dealer.
I bought the Cibie Valeo ones which are part number 068845.
In case you ever need it the part number for the Cibie driving lamps is 4450701. This is of course assuming they haven't changed the numbers!

I had mine sent from LAE Valeo, London, 0208 297 1439

If anyone is interested I have a brand new set of left hand drive head lamps in the garage, never been out of the boxes.

Confirm - standard Cibie 7 inch non sidelight unit.
I purchased one recently - standard stock item at my local auto electrical factors £18.50

Best of luck with the MOT

Last MOT i needed one - gave them the part number but the wrong one arrived! fair play to the garage though, they stripped the old back plate ring and fitted it to the new one (the plate is rubber sealed in place).

I'm in search of two headlamp outer-rims (chrome or black)... are they standard (if I by one from a mini, will it fit ?).

Yep I suggest stainless steel, not as shiney but won't rust.

IIRC the black plastic ones are actually (badly) modified from some other fitment, as all those I've seen are as rough as a badger's ar5e and only fit where they touch....

I think mine are fiberglass. I always thought they were TVR 'home made'.
