THANK GOD FOR STRING!

Pulled out this afternoon to pass a reasonably priced Suzuki Liana (had to be really) - rear squats exhaust barks revs rise to 3000 then suddenly the pedal hits the carpet and we begin to coast!!!

Manage to pull off the road into a hotel approach and stop to investigate - and the culprit just a broken cable quick dive into boot for the ball of string (always carry one) couple of quick knots thread two lengths (in case one snaps) around the radiator expansion tank neck over the door mirror and into the passenger side.

Short practice up and down the hotel drive left hand throttling and snatching gear changes whilst steering with right hand - relatively easy so long as you dont try using too much power!!!

So out into the afternoon traffic, three T junctions, 1 roundabout, 2 traffic calming humps, 2 pedestrian crossings (both in use of course) and safely home without a hitch - thank god!

So wedgers be warned never leave home without some string it may just get you back!

Now does anyone know where I can get a new cable expressed out to me tomorrow? Or does someone now the source vehicle cable?

When mine went I just threaded a bike brake cable up the middle of the old sleeve as a temporary fix, and 1000 miles later it's still on there.

Worth a try.

I think someone mentioned that the new 'wedge' parts owners managed to get a new cable for them - although speedy cables have been known to supply them
