When i switch on my sidelights, both bumper sidelights illuminate as normal and the pods rise (as they should - it's a late model)but pod sidelights have stopped working. Dipped/main beam lights work as normal. Any ideas anyone?
I think I remember something about a resistor dimming the dipped lights when switched to sidelights. Anyone know where the resistor is located so i can check if it's open circuit?
Thanks
Trevor

There should be a dim dip relay box under the passenger side dash, made by lucas. Mine has failed twice so far once leaving the dipped beam on permantly and the other time no dim lights when they pop up

Ah, that ties in. I vaguely remember (haven't driven it for a good while) when i switched the lights off the pods retracted but dim dip sometimes stayed on! Can you remember which relay it is or what markings are on it?

It's quite a large unit about 3 - 4 inches long 2 inches wide and 3/4 deep with a multi connector goinginto it. On the 350 it was tie wrapped to the top of the dash by the glove box some where.

I'll try and dig the part number out if I can find the reciept later

GSX: if you have any of the duff units, I'd be happy to take a look at them for you. Spares like this are worth hanging on to.

I had to get mine from a lucas supplier as only they knew what the number meant ! Cost I think about £35 2 years ago

I'll try and find the old unit for BBWF as I know it is around somewhere.

It definately sounds like a dim dip relay fault.
They are almost certainly a standard Lucas part, as fitted by most manufacturers through the eighties. The relay is bigger that a normal relay and usually pinky orange colour. Available without problem via Renault dealers, part No. 7700777420 last known price was £31.57 plus vodka & tonic, maybe cheaper elsewhere but doubt that it will be a huge saving.
Cheers

Another question but first, thanks for that description of it and where it is Paul, because I definitely wouldn't have thought it was a relay on seeing it. Mine has a black anodized alloy case with heatsink material, and when I opened it up I was surprised to see an electrolytic capacitor,4 other caps, a Zener diode, 3 other diodes?, a chip!!, 3 transistors, 10 resistors and what look like 2 power transistors ( yes, I know it's sad to have counted them all). But all this just for the sidelights??!!
The two green power transistors on mine (if thats what they are) are both open circuit and one shows clear signs of overheating - which brings me to my next question.
They are marked A1293 and I cannot find a reference to them anywhere, including RS and Farnell websites. Anyone know of a replacement for these
