Engine Colour

Getting a little anal here....

I've been painting bits & pieces to make it all look pretty one the engine & 'box goes back in. The engine block is looking a bit scabby in places so I am going to respray it.

Is there a standard colour for the Rover V8, either particular to the Wedge or just generally?
For example Lotus Twin Cam blocks were traditioanlly light grey and Leyland A-series engines a dark olive green.

Dont know but i prefer silver cos its relativley easy to spot any leaks, and also its lighter in the engine bay, BL Olive green, black etc really darken the place and if its late evening and Im working via a sole inspection light I need all the help I can get.

Mine was (and still is) just plain old (crusty in places, oily in others) alloy.
I have a spare ex-SD1 motor in the garage which is [runs outside] the same...

Carl Kordwells SEAC engine is bright red from the heads down and looked fantastic.

Mind you the £15k of added shiney bits add to the effect!

Mine is bare metal alloy type finish. Keeps well. Unless that is too difficult to do in your circumstances?

How about just restoring the block surface back to 'new' condition. I know there is a product you brush on to superclean the alloy.
Gives nice bright finish - nothing to flake off and keeps it standard

I can't rememember what its called, anyone Know?

Well my Daughter and I wanted Pink, I would have thought at least one of you would have recognised the benefits of this

No and no.

They were steel blocks painted to stop them rusting - not a problem with aluminium blocks.

I like the shound of this one, as half of the existing paint is already off should be relatively easy to achieve :crosses fingers & toes:

Good plan! Then we can get our wimmin to look under the bonnet and say "Hmmm, you really need some more shiny bits under there, to go with that pink block..."

totally agree. never saw the point of painting a nice alloy block. just buff it up with a wire wheel or use that alloy cleaner. no paint to flake off six months later!

I used a strong alloy wheel type cleaner, painting can have benefits but you need special primers and not to sure how they would react to high temps.

Anyway after the clean I spray it witb WD 40, looks nice and shiney !!
