No5 needs new master !!!

Seem to recall somebody quoting a Lucas number on here but had to retain the main rod as its a different length? (keep the old one just in case)
There are seal kits available if the bores etc. are not scored.
Worth giving the WedgeParts man a bell first

are we talking about an s1 taz? if so i changed mine some years ago and was assured the one i was buying from a well known supplier was exactly the same....wrong the high pressure connection to the slave cylinder was a different size so the pipe had to be flared to fit the connection. not a show stopper but check before you start what tools you require

Changed mine on 84 350i last year .... Somebody has a good memory it is Lucas Girling PMC133(64066117) you will have to use original rod though , if your interested its a TR6 fitment (next best motor to a wedge i think.

It ain't a ford as they used cables... It is a sort of a special as the cylinder itself is fairly common but the push rod isn't. TVR also changed the spec to a bigger bore as well so chcek that what you get is what you have.

well ive just changed both of mine ,clutch slave and master cylinder .yes keep the old rod as you have to put it on the new master cylinder, its a bolt that fixes it to the pedal which is the old rod ,on one the part number is different i think its the slave cylinder ,prices for master cylinder i think around 55 quid and the slave 25 ,thats what Andrew Pages wanted when i phoned .i got both of mine for 50 quid shop around ...

erm..... thanks guys, just took out the master seems fine, but the slave is as rusted and stuck as ****. This seems to be a common cylinder so will get a replacement tomorrow.

Agree with Steve,there are differences to the standard girling unit.my 390se had larger 1/4" bore pipe and unions-same as grif/chim.(parts still available from TVR) as well as the different thread on the pushrod. either a TVR MOD or girling special ...

No5 is moving now. Didn't have to renew anything. Took the slave cylinder off, took it to work and scraped out the gunk. Stripped it down, put it on my lathe polished the bore, put everything back together and hey-presto clutch in - in gear - forward motion.
Clutch feels good......................ug

It's always worth just giving something a 'clean' before binning it.

I've 'fixed' all manner of domestic appliances and suchlike, simply by taking the things apart before chucking them out.
Often you find it's just a bit of muck, or something's come loose.

As a bonus, you find out how they work !
