BP or Shell?

I usually use Shell optimax, but there are no Shell service stations in Stevenage..!! Which is a pain.
We do have BP though, does anyone use their new petrol 'Ultimate' is it as good as optimax? Octane etc...

Since I'm doing some consultancy for BP at the moment I suppose I should say 'yes, of course Ultimate is better than Optimax' ! The truth is that I have no idea.

The one thing that I can tell you is that it is Octane 97.

BP Ultimate is 97 RON, Optimax is 98 RON - no contest! (unless you like pinking)

Oddly, on my recent trip down south, I noticed I was getting much more pinking from Optimax than from Esso Super Plus Unleaded (97 Ron!).

I don't know if I just got a dud batch, or what, but it was truly bad. Bordering on knock on hard accelereation. I backed off in genuine alarm.

Only seems to have been that bad from this one particualr station, but I still get more pinking under extreme load with Optimax than with Essos Super Plus.

Can't work out why that would be, either.

Never tried anythig else other than Optimax. THe previous owner said it made such a difference so I just go by what he said and fill it with the good juice!
