I used 33 litres of fuel to cover 101 tortuous miles from Windermere to the Lakeland coast - that's only just over 13mpg! And I've just had a major service!

Fortunately this isn't too representative of 'normal' driving. Most of the time 20mph felt stupidly quick and we were flicking between 1st and second gear, sometimes third. Roads where we actually got into 4th even at low revs were were called the fast bits.

I've never measured my mpg before, it might have frightened me! I only know this becuase of a Tuscan thread running elsewhere on PH. Interestingly I used the amount of fuel as the Tuscan

The conclusion is that TVRs are not really designed for these roads. Way too little weight. Way too much power and terrible forward visibility when in cloud and cresting the ultra-steep rises. It was extremely scary and not wholly enjoyable at the time; however in hindsight it was one of the best things we have done with our Tivs

Oh dear, oh dear. Stick to the photography Duncan. Poor mpg in these conditions is because you have a 4.5 litre engine running inneficiently on tickover. If it were heavier it would be worse, but how does the weight compare to a focus? 20mph? you can't have been using that much power. Steep rises? Negated by the torque? Just what are you saying?
