Eeee, she is just ungrateful. I buy her some xmas presents which you think she'd appreciate. But does she? I thinks not, she wants to keep her old bits. Well it's not on I tell you
Grrrr, rusty nuts and bolts, grrrrr.
Alternator removed, half of water pump (snapped with crowbar, oops), not even got to starter motor! It's all good dirty fun
Thought I'd bet post in case you were missing me and thought I'd stopped fixing/breaking bits after MOT!

Cheers for info Jeff. I was on hols last week
First drive resulted in holed heater hose, revealed starter motor can barely turn over hot engine (new battery not long ago+clean contacts), alternator not charging convincingly and water pump sounds like it's got very ill bearings. It better be that and not something internal.
I managed to snap the old water pump in two whilst trying to 'persuade' it to free the last two bolts around the thermostat end. Guess I'll be welding nuts onto the remaining bolts as they're rusted and rounded

thought I'd wake this thread up again.
Anyone got a good source of thermostat housings? Mr Ford, usual TVR places and even Capri places don't seem to have them
cheers
Dave
PS 2.8 engine btw
PSS The roads up here on New Years Day evening were best described as exciting on m'bike, otherwise described as very scary

If you are really struggling and need it welding I know a guy in Manchester who can weld it. He has welded sumps, manifolds etc etc for me in the past. He runs a welder training school......so he knows his stuff.
There was a company advertising in sprint for V6 engines....have you tried them???

well, I'm definitely struggling to find one, either new or 2nd hand. Current thinking is I may buy different gas+wire for the MIG t'moz and have a go. I've got the missing bit and it push fits quite well. Might I be better soldering/brazing or something maybe? Just guessing now! (thanks 4 offer Steve, I may yet take you up on it
)
I confess thatt I've not even looked properly at the hot start prob as yet. I've got a nice new starter motor in a box but I want to fix this prob first. Think that, along with cleaned wires/contacts to it+new earth braid to block should sort it. Not least because I'm not going to run her v long without water!
Ahh, just spotted the ad in Sprint, JW Development, missed them when I flicked through, another one to try, thanks
cheers people

Get a smaller hammer = you have to stop breaking stuff!
If you have no luck in UK I can get one here for you, It's not exactly the same but it fits perfectly onto the water pump and rad only difference is the angle of the by-pass but that's no big deal. I have one on my car.

I must be a soul mate! I dropped my stat housing before I knew they were rare...and then found there are several different non-interchangeable types. Ford Germany have none either! I araldited mine together and it did a 1800 mile blast round Scotland ok and is still in. I got another used one as a spare, but even if it was broke, don't fix it!I'll leave well alone until it leaks at some innapropriate moment! My biggest problem is pathetic heat from the "heater" Any ideas out there ? engine cooling is fine.My car is 1982 2.8i
d/h I may have a pump & stat housing for a later 84?? engine that I bought before I knew there were different types,Idont think I slung it in disgust!!

I had a similar problem with a magnesium alloy part I broke on my V8 Alfa Montreal. No one could weld it, and I spent six months of searching. Finally I made a drawing and took it to a machine shop to be made. £300 later I had a part. Might be cheaper for you to just buy a spare engine! ( if you had two made, they'd probably only charge you £400 !)

Ouch, I've been toying with the idea of taking it to a casting place. Seen a few who reckon they specialise in one offs.
I'm currently pursuing a bloke who's breaking a Capri. He's got the right part but not removed it yet, need to see if it comes off complete..........
I tried to solder it with a thing by the name of aluminium repair rod. Lets just say it didn't work and leave it at that, oops
I have toyed with the idea of a spare engine! Bit overkill but...........
