Tasmin Mk 1 seats
Discussion
Just got a tear in the drivers seat of my Taz, does anyone know which car was the donor, current seats are black vinyl. may upgrade to leather.any taz racer got black or tan leather seats going spare? I have a quote of £500 to re-do both seats in good quality leather, bit much at the moment, looking for a cheaper way.
There wasn't a donor: the seats are Tasmin-specific. They were made by Callow and Maddox Brothers (Cambro) in Coventry, who used the same rake levers etc. and general methods of construction that were used on seats for other makers, hence you think they 'look like' they come from some other car.
Compared to most cars (especially modern ones) the Tasmin seats are very narrow, with very long base cushions for thigh support, and the Wedge cabin is difficult (though not impossible) to find other seats to fit.
You should find some ex-Tas racecar seats, though.

Hello,
I'm currently having the whole of my interior replaced, and to keep the costs down I'm doing a lot of the stripping/rebuilding myself. I live in Ipswich, Suffolk and have been quoted about £500 to do the whole interior, including the seats in leather, by a company who has been doing interiors for many years. The very helpful chap told me that the leather for the seats (faces, sides and possibly backs if there is enough) will come to around £150 and based on the amount of stiching involved I would say he is charging between £50 and £75 for the labour on top of that. The only thing I have to do is strip the original covers off, and when he has taken measurements of everything, I have to unstich all the small panels so he can use them as templates. This apparently involves just running a stanley knife through all the sewed areas, so probably very easy to do.
Whilst it involves a bit of messing around, I'm sure its only an evening or so of my time and saves a lot of money! Chances are your upholsterer may also let you do some of the tedious/time consuming work to cut down on the costs.
