Good Morning all. I'm approaching a point where a decision maybe required. Basically the value of a 1984 Wedge 2.8i? My inherited "pile of parts" are now together in a serviceable vehicle, new engine, reburished interior/hood etc. However it's 'Scuffy' paintwise. Respray 2k? The vehicle will then stand me about 5k. Any thoughts please. Obviously it was never bought as an investment but a project to keep my spanners in use. I've got the'Itch'for something different.
Cheers J C.
Cheers J C.if the car would be spot-on, with a clean, shiny and tidy enginebay and the same underneath (clean , shiny, tiday chassis and suspension) with all new bushes, bolts new and the usual upgrades you might fetch 5k.
a project is always difficult to value....maybe its worth more in parts than as a complete car?
havent ssen any pics from outside, inside, enginebay and underneath, so difficult to say...

Hi Zig. Not at all.
How could you think that! Not after the fannying about with the alternator mounts and cooling system. It just seems a pity not to return "Wesley" to his former glory. If he behaves after his MOT and road use I guess I'll bit the bullet and treat him. Incidentally what pressure cap should be fitted to the rad? At the moment I have Ford expansion tank with a 1.2 bar cap and a leaky rad cap which I can't identify except it just has a rubber seal inside and a pin protruding from the top which leaks. Cheers J C. Happy New Year.

Hi John...I thought you were getting rid by the.."Itching for something different bit"...Lets see the paint before you go splashing out on him...I think i had a blanking cap on the rad as the overflow on the filler neck is part of the flow...Which went to my small inlet on the expansion tank.
Your cap sounds wrong...You can get both from Tickover

Is £2000 really what you must pay? Here we would pay anything from about $350 for a really cheap job with minimal work to a little over $2000 for a proper job using a two part epoxy type paint, with a little more preparation, which would be near showroom quality but not including engine bay.

Good Morning Zig/Wilf. Yep £2k was I thought a bit steep. For that I'd want doors removed etc. One of the problems here in UK Wilf is our health & safety regs, water based paints etc. All adding to costs. When I get "Wesley" on the road I'll send up some pics. I think you're right Zig about the rad cap not being standard. A call to Tick**er in order. Cheers J C.
John...What is the condition of Wesley's paint..If its lost its sheen then you may be able to liven it up with some colour magic which does work, Or there are other products like G3 or some of the Meguiars detailing stuff is the dogs...
Here is Poppy's paintwork....Hopefully it will help you to see that even a scabby horse can be loved...
Not sure WTF they were trying to do on the boot???...The darker area has a lip on the tape line...FFS!!

Im hoping to get the lacquer sorted in the spring...I will have to prep and re-spray the boot lid though cos thats the worst repair to paint i have seen...On a TVR that is...
Its more so about stopping it from getting any worst..Im not too fussed about other little nicks, If i can touch them in then cool but if not hey ho...Poppy is not a garage queen...People still admire her and from a distance of about 6ft you can't really see the scabbiness.....

Thanks Zig. At work at the moment so can see your posts but can't open the pics (MOD Firewalls) might be rude??
"Wesley's" paint is fortunately not a lacquer finish. It has a few abrasions the worst being around the front spoiler, speed bumps? The wing mirrors look like they've been painted with gloss paint!
The rest should benefit from a good T-Cut perhaps. I seem to have aquired a new rear bumper, still in grey primer. However it must be the later type with a lower single exhaust cut out? "Wesley has a black under bumper moulding with twin exhausts outlets.I prefer that. I think the previous owner wanted to fit the later exhaust system? Will try this weekend to post some pics. J C.

used it pretty much on all my tvr's and you can see the difference it made

right side done, left side as I bought her

if you are braver you could try wet sanding first if she is really bad with some 2000 wet n dry but its real easy to sand through the paint on the edges (loads of you tube videos on how to do it)

Thanks for the pics Zig and advice from others. I've taken a few pics of "Wesley" this morning and to be frank he's not in bad shape for 15 years of inactivity. As I said the front spoiler is a bit rough as is a few abrasions on the wing. Trouble with me and bodywork is patience. However I'm going to have a go at the front spoiler and take the forum's advice and see how the finish comes up with Auto Gylm. Matching the paint I know is going to be difficult as the age as made it slightly yellow white. Anyway here's a few pics. Cheers and thanks.J C.

Hi Ziga. No the mark on the wing feels like a deep scratch. I've slapped a bit of filler on the spoiler to see how that comes up and as you say the rest isn't too bad. Considering it had been stored for 15 years in a working environment. I'm expecting the paint to be a problem to match but not too much of a problem. Would the exhaust system I have; two pipes exiting through a panel beneath the rear bumper have been standard? Just wondering why the previous owner bought the different rear bumper which seems a much bigger unit with a single cut out for the exhaust. V8 type? Cheers J C.
