I took a look at that 400se, needed quite a lot of money spent on it.
At the time the seller had an offer from a guy down the road, the intention was to break it for parts, the chassis was to be used as a base for a hot rod.
The seller indicated that he didn't want to see the car broke.

Hi, what was the work required, purely cosmetic or chassis etc, looking for a project but not a major body off

HOB was my former car, my first wedge, should not require the body off as I took the body off prior to it being written off, long story !!! but chassis was stripped with new outriggers etc by a welder friend, running gear was all rebuilt, engine was an ex Chim 400 (Cannot remember the mileage) as a fuel pressure regulator overfuelled the engine so a change was needed. At the time I was going to replace respray the car (Same colour but initial job was not that good to the trained eye but still looked great to me) a change to the interior started so I ripped it all out but as the insurers wrote it off I let it go that way. One finger and hotty did a great job recommissioning it with what they had but I know time has always been an issue, however it would make a great project car and has so much history.
In its time this car took us over Stelvio and we followed a Milia Migla route down to Rome, one trip 2250 miles one well over 3500 miles and HOB never missed a beat, still miss HOB.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you.
When I looked at the car a few weeks ago, the condition of the Chassis was good and quite clean, the body wasn't to bad, paint was a little odd to my eyes ( some people may like it, but not to my taste).
The car was started and run ok.
Interior could do with a referb.
Be good to see the car saved !
