I get one maybe two swipes then the wiper freezes and a burning smell descends! Like the motor is not powerful enough to push the wiper across the dryer screen. I have to jump out and pull it to the park position. Not good in the April showers.
What's the wiper motor from?

Burning smell?...Thats not good mate..I believe the wiper motor was a window lift motor with a mod to the pinion...?

The wiper motor is a 16W and is shared with TR7s Stags and Scimitars. The Wedge gearwheel is 170 degrees whereas the TR7 is about 130. A wedge needs a 40 tooth 2¼ inch wheel box with a tapering spline

It may be the drive tube or the wheelbox jamming. I burnt my motor out a long time ago and it was a real nightmare to get sorted. I eventually bought a motor from Moss.

SVC do a replacement set up which may work http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/wiper-system--one-w...

You will enjoy taking the dashboard off and getting the existing out!!

Never had any problems with the motor but when dressing the engine bay found the mounting bolts easy to get too. next question is: which side does it park? is mine the only one that parks on the left? (UK)

The park position is determined by a press-in 'ramp' on the large nylon gear - the headlamp pod motors are similar, in fact they usually have two possible positions but only one is correct for the Wedge.
Mine definitely parks on the right as it usually won't drop right to the bottom of the screen when switched off, so I can drop the side window and reach round the screen pillar to move it by hand biggrin

I refurbished mine when I was doing the Gredge engine conversion ... parts are readily available from Rimmers (not the cheapest but was the easiest)

Think it was this one as mentioned (Stag)

If you have caught it early enough it will just need a good clean commutator and brushes, with lubrication both of the motor and the cable

took me about 2 hours to do as I recall

Sorry, I was of course talking complete ballcocks there, the dual parking only appplies to the pod motor bangheadirkedconfusedrolleyesloser

NO! the parking IS determined by a press in ramp on the back of the gear.

My wiper will activate some mornings when it's damp and continue until the car has a good warm. Any ideas?
Can you change the park orientation without changing the motor? Would be nice to have it park on the left!

Hi Charlie,
Yes....but, what car are we talking about now..you might know that I build wiper motors right from the DR3 to 2003, as fitted to all TVR's. and they will all park 180 degrees opposite.

Does the dash really need to come out? Can't I break my wrists and smash my knuckles pulling it out with the dash in?
