i have an early wedge (1984) dhc. it has 3905 v8 converted to carb (holley on offenhauser manifold), i would like to replace the offenhauser manifold with an edelbrock performer that i have, but that is taller as well as reputedly giving up to 10bhp more than the offy. i would also like to get some cool air flowing to the air filter as well as more cool air under the bonnet in general so am thinking of cutting a hole for the big round air filter to fit through and making up an old style scoop over the hole for the air filter to sit under. and maybe a couple of extra small scoops nearer the front of the bonnet just to relieve under bonnet temperatures a bit.
but i don't want to experiment with chopping up my mint bonnet, so if anyone has a scruffy or damaged one i can have either for free or for not too much 'wedge' (get it?) that i can chop about and just paint matt black to put on thecar, that would be very helpful. i don't know if later wedge bonnets fit earlier cars, i imagine either type would do. thanks.

Hi Drak

I think you may need a 280i bonnet as your car is a series 1 350i...I could be wrong but I'm sure the series 2 is bigger.

You could give this guy a call to see if he still has anything left of this poor beast...(Sorry Andy).

..............

Your hot running issue could very well be literally staring you in the face...Perhaps that wire is expanding under the heat and causing a serious break at the main source.

What coil do you have on there?...I think the suggestion of changing to a different distributor and coils may be the answer.

Hope this helps..
