Rover V8's don't need a lot of pressure, volume is more important. but 30 PSI is a little low, are what oil you running as if your not using 20/50 it can show low.
As long as your not getting the light on at idle your be fine for a while yet, the early pumps (pre-serp) are a poor design and do wear. it is possible to fit new pump gears and get the housing re-surfaced, and a service kit for the spring and plunger.

Not a clue as to what oil was put in, only had the car since Feb and before that it had a top engine refit.

Relying on the TVR gauge can me a bit misleading, as they're not very well numbered. With my (pre-serp), pre-engine rebuild and taking readings with an aftermarket gauge, I was getting 20 psi hot idle (1K rpm) and 40 psi over 2.5K rpm hot. These numbers have gone up to about 25 psi hot idle and maybe 45 psi over 2.5K rpm post rebuild. All using 15W 50 oil.

30 when warm at 3000rpm is quite normal for one of these, going by the wedge oil pressure gauge. I've had five V8 wedges so far and not one of them has been much higher. What matters is how quickly the gauge moves up when engine revs from idle. Also, things to look out for. Tappety noise when idling is indication of oil starvation. Flickering oil pressure light is also an indication and oil fumes out the exhaust. Those aside, don't worry and have fun. Always use good oil of the correct grade and change oil regularly.

Always remember that low oil pressure is better than no oil pressure....30psi does sound about right..When I'm allowed to accelerate on the "Special parts" of the motorway my oil pressure can see around 40psi but that is in stealth mode.

Mine has this in it which is a good classic oil...

I should imagine it would be higher with a thinner oil.

As long as the car starts with the oil light on and then extinguishes around 5-10 seconds later then its fine...Never let the car sit there warming up...And definitely do not keep high revving it to warm it up...You should drive these car as soon as you start them and drive them respectively until normal operating temperature has been reached...Then you can floor it...smile

Thanks all for the info. It has put my mind at ease a bit. Zig thanks for the oil link, I am going to order some for the future. The sun is out so there will be a roaring sound into sunny Scunny when I go home.
