Hood Insulation Pad

My hood insulation pad was all funky and falling off when I got my car so I took it off. What's the deal with the soldered wires, what appears to be a ground strap and the metal mesh backing? I thought maybe it had something to do with the radio aerial but it originally had a power one on the rear quarter panel with a dash switch. Just curious.

This has been covered many times on here ... The original mesh was supposed to connected via the bayonet connectors on the original struts to the vehicle ground to reduce engine based RFi for the radio ... Whether it worked is open to debate but who listens to the radio anyway??

Oh sorry, yeah, the bonnet. Forgot about my company!

Cool, thanks for info. Now I won't feel so bad about removing all of the electrical stumps.
