I've discovered a split in the flexible fuel line under the bonnet that runs from the copper pipe in the offside wheel arch to the fuel pressure regulator on my 400SE. Luckily I had a length of 5/16" fuel hose to temporarily replace it, but it looks a bit too large in diameter compared to the old pipe. What size should this pipe be? TIA

It won't really matter about the outside diameter as long as the bore's correct smile
I seem to recall on my car there are about four different ODs of fuel line in the system, with some of them having joiners in from one bore to another depending on what's on each end of the line.
Can't be more specific at the moment as my book of words is 12 miles away and I've been drinking!
