Discussion
I have put this on FB but will try both options.
Has anyone fitted a cool air intake system that runs from front of car up to the air intake (flapper unit on mine), If so which one, there seem to be various available and at various prices. There seems to be good feed back on doing this.
Whilst i am at it, has anyone fitted the shorter air intake trumpets (carbon fibre) and if so do they make a difference?
If any of these do make a difference, i would presume doing both is going to be better.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve
No comment on the air cooling......but wouldn't be too hard to route some ducting to the front brakes plus the air filter. Your bonnet has a vent in the bonnet so is shoving air right on the filter anyhow
As for the inlet manifolds.....both my 420SE's I've had......had standard inlet diameter but where half the length of standard
What this did to power or torque I have no idea lol sorry

Steve, I've replied about the cold air feed on FB. I have a set of John Eales 45mm alloy trumpets on his Base, plus an intake manifold that has been opened out to match. The shorter trumpets tend to move the power up the rev range a little, which is fine on my engine as the power is still rising at 6k rpm. I think if you use an insulator under the trumpet base you can keep the intake length as original when using the shorter trumpets.
Yes Glenn, i did forget about he vents in the bonnet although they do tend to direct air over the wheel arch and not necessarily over the over the air filter. However your possibly right, any benefit of directing cool air from the front of the car might be reduced compared to a wedge without bonnet louvers.
As for the trumpets, the reason i was thinking of these is that ACT quote increases of 10bhp when fitting the standard dia but shortened trumpets.

IMHO... saw or turn 10-15mm off the bottoms of the standard trumpets and glue them back in. Use a plenum insulator, the thicker the better but you might find the bonnet won't close if you go as much as 10mm. To get round this you can mill an equal amount off the bottom of the trumpet base which then maintains all the tract lengths at standard (Rover did have some idea, after all).
