Hi mate.

How is yours held in?..Some were held in by small screws in each corner and some were just rested behind the centre dash.

Cheers

Lots of small screws of different types! Basically I need to pull the whole lot apart and start again.

Mine looks like this....

The moulding the panel sits is was coloured in with a black felt pen!

Does anyone have a photo of what the panel should look like?

Does anyone know what car the heater controls were sourced from?

Hi Joe

I have a centre dash panel you can have...It was my first attempt at applying a walnut burr leaf...I need to finish the flattening off though...

Or i have a plain black one that you can have...I also have a set of the heater slider controls on the hosing and with the control cables...(I think)...They were a Ford item...Possibly Escort.

Let me know if you would like the parts...As long as the potage is covered I'm a happy bunny...smile

Cheers

That's the same as my DHC used to be....

Not rear defrost but aerial retract? (no logo on switch in mine), but panel itself was the same.

Both panel and moulding was hacked about so were a total mess....

Ditto. I wonder if that's how they left the factory? Preparing the moulding to be built up so that the refurbished panel can be screwed to something solid...

I think mine was hacked to get a bigger stereo in. The lower strip of the panel had been cut out (with pliers by the look of it)
and the GRP was cut to match, and the inside bits which support the heater controls was cracked and broken up.

I ended up making a new thicker aluminium panel and curving it on the lower end to match the moulding, and adding a 1/4 inch (ish) ally bar along the top to strengthen it all, and bolted it together (through GRP where I could).

This gave me the opportunity to add a switch and ditch the cig lighter, so it now looks more like the 350 layout. At the moment it's still just ally, not painted or anything, but it works....

If memory serves (and it's been 20 years so bear with me biggrin), my S1 Tasmin had the black panel shown above with the stepped cutout for the heater controls (ex-Escort Mk2). I have a full dimensioned drawing for it somewhere.
The original steroe pre-dated the DIN-E standard used now so the cutout was smaller which is why they'll almost all have been butchered by now. I have a vague recollection that the stereo was meant to be held in place by a bent metal plate that would originally have fitted round the shafts of the knobs on the original stereo and was screwed to the top of the tunnel. The stereo then held the heater/switch plate in place! Of course by the time I got it the old stereo had gone and the plate flapped about like a turkey around December 1st... whistle

That explains a lot - makes perfect sense from what I saw on mine. Thanks.
