My belts are rubbing on both the swan neck and alss lower coolant pipe.

Other than adjustment are there any other solutions ?

Your swan neck looks way to low compared to mine and others I have seen. Your bottom hose should have a metal section in it near the radiator which you can try adjusting. I looked at mine earlier and neither of mine are close to catching so ot sure if someone has messed with yours in the past.

Mine did that at one point as well, renewed the lot (and sorted the gap) but reckon the bottom hose was old and flexible and was expanding in use as well making it worse. Deal with it now rather than on the hard shoulder........

Likewise had a similar issue when I got my 350i. A new set of hoses and a bit of fiddling gave a good 20mm of clearance.

I did cheat and get a custom hose that went past the pulleys if memory serves.

I attached a thin strip of aly to the swan neck with a jubilee clip.

This is bent into a U shape by hand and the arms rest on the front crossmember, it raises the pipe by about 5mm which then clears the fan belt OK. Occasionally I have to re-bend the legs but it's simple, light, and worked OK for 8 years now.

Hi Nick

Looking at the above pic of your car I can see you have the alloy bracket which holds the swan neck pipe up. I would remove that and fit a longer one and move it closer to the middle of the cross beam so it holds the pipe up higher. The bottom pipe problem looks like the hoses has been pushed to far onto the water pump or they have been pushed to far onto the inter connecting pipe from the rad causing it to be rubbing on the belt. To fix is up to you it may need a new hose or just re-adjusting it so it doesn't rub.

This is my 5-minute fix that has lasted almost a decade.... it means you can whip it off and keep full originality.

Apologies it's upside-down (will be the right way up in Oz though)
