Hi, just a general question. I might have the opportunity of aquiring a 2.8 Granada inlet manifold/carb. Would it fit my 1984 2.8i and would there be any advantage to this mod? Thanks for any thoughts. J C.

it should fit fine and the advantage would be simplicity, less to go wrong, no dodgy electrics to worry about. when new or in perfect condition the efi works great, but on these old cars they can start failing due to numerous electric glitches that can be a real headache to trace, sensors, servos, wiring, terminals, ecu etc etc... comparing new with new the efi probably our performs the carb but the carb is very easy to keep working with much less to go wrong and plenty of scope for tuning. if i could convert my 2.9 to carb as easily as you can convert your 2.8 i would! just my opinion, i know it is not a popular one.

Thanks Drak. My system seems to be behaving at the moment although running from cold is a bit lumpy. The air intake is a little concerning being very close to the engine with no scope to mod the airbox so not that efficent. I like manual things really hence the query. Cheers J C.

I have a manifold and a 38DGMS in the cupboard and this will go on if the injection system ever plays up.

If the injection system is behaving, keep that on there biggrin

As above, I have a 38DGAS weber that was on my old 2.8 lump. Never misbehaved and performed quite well jetted for the 3litre Essex it originated from wink

However, I have since come to love the symplicity of MFI and would've gone that route otherwise.

Is there 6 little blanking screws on the fuel head on yours? (as if there is, you can trim the injectors with them )

Fundamental advantage of carbs over CIS is that a camshaft that has valve overlap can be used.
Valve overlap with CIS confuses the hell out of it.

So if no camshaft upgrade you are probably better off with the CIS, it's not a bad system.

Whether it was already "dated" by the early 80s is another question, Porsche dropped it after the 2.7s!
