Hi all
Just putting it out there, I'm interested in finding a pre-serp 4.2 doesn't need to be a runner, just want to build an engine for the sx but don't want to bastardise the original.
My understanding is that the 4.2 is the optimum cc for the sprintex 102.
It's a bucket list thing
Cheers

(4.2.=94mm (3.9 bore ) plus and 4.2 longer stroke crank)

AFAIK they never did the 4.2 as a serp.
Ideally though you want the intermediate serp cover, that has a dissy but with the new style oil pump.
But all the blocks can take any cover so they can all be converted back and forth, main differences being camshaft with dissy / pump take off, and crank nose length.

So could you put a 4.2 crank in a 3.5? i.e. to stroke it, what cc would that give?
The sx is running great at the moment but it's on 75k ish now and will perhaps need a cam soon although not yet showing signs, it leaves the usual oil paintings on the garage floor and if I get around to doing the chassis, suspension and bushes I should probably look at doing the engine. Either this one or a replacement.
What do you guys think?
Cheers

This of any use ?? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-Classic-LSE-jo...
We must have similar buckets!
I already have m 4.3 sitting in the barn (no you can't have it) it was from our old Rangey that had been souped up by some farmer in Ely, by coincidence that car had been exported to Oz, then returned. So it never ever overheated....
As I understand it you need to stroke a 3.9 to get a 4.2, so you start with bigger pots.
I have a similar idea, at the moment the 4.0 is going strong and this is in reserve, in case of a major problem.
