Hi - I've got a few electrical gremlins with the car at the moment and was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a wiring diagram available for the Tasmin 200 and if so where can I get one. ( or is it just a case of trying to trace wires around the car to find the issues ) . Thanks - Ian.

I imagine it'll be more or less the same as the V6 cars minus a few bits... but does it have the all-black wiring loom or is it multi-coloured?
Someone will be along any minute with a link to the V6 or V8 versions, alas I'm at work at the moment.

My 1983/84 200 has the multi coloured wires. There are wiring diagrams in the Steve Heath bible for the 280 and 350 but nothing specifically for the 200.
I've used the 280 wiring diagrams for most things... it's just the engine related stuff that's different.

Cheers Steve

Thanks guys,

An all black wiring loom ??? that sounds a nightmare. Luckily my early 84 plate 200 has a coloured loom like yours Steve. Do you know if the Steve Heath Bible is still in print for the 280/350 wedge as I can't find one anywhere ( even used ). Looks like a case of searching ebay etc. and hoping for the best.

Ian.

Yes, the early cars used all-black wires with little coloured sleeves at each end, but the sleeves either discolour so you misread them or become brittle and fall off.

The not quite, all black W.D. (war department) wiring looms (they were fitted on TVR'S 76-83).
The real issue was that most of the wiring was 9 core apart from headlamps main/dipped/motors/HRW, BUT alternator AND earth cables were brown.
Here is a link (not that the ESS link should be used as I tried years ago and they did not have the tags then) https://www.wdbsa.nl/wd-wiring.htm

Thanks to everyone who responded - it's good to know there is a wealth of knowledge out there for any future problems I might ( no doubt will ) have.
Adrian the electrical diagram link is perfect - I may try and get it printed at A3 and laminated - thanks.
Phillpot- thanks for the link - Steve Heath Manual has been ordered and hopefully will be of great assistance in the future.

Thanks again all - Ian.

What are the issues you are having? We might be able to pinpoint them. Is your 200 a DH or FHC?

My car is a tasmin 200 DH and my current issues are:

1 - My windscreen wipers work intermittently ( that is they sometimes work and sometimes they don't ) and when they are working they sometimes stop mid wipe.

2 - My heater blower does not work ( the previous owner disconnected the water supply to the heater for some reason ) but the heater is not an issue as I can live without that but no blower for demisting is a big problem that I need to fix and the fuse just blows when I switch on the blower. I have tried to access the fan unit to establish if the fan is spinning freely but I can hardly see the unit never mind work on it.

3 - The handbrake warning light on the dash will not go out. This in itself is not a major issue as I am perfectly capable of knowing when my handbrake is off or on but a bright red light on the dash is, I find ,very distracting.

Any help with these issues would be gratefully received.

Ian.

The 16W motor runs via an SD1 delay box, that controls the wash wipe and intermittent system which I would look at first (rather than the park switch) as the motor is in the car it is quite robust in comparison to externally mounted units in TVR's.
The heater blow runs a ballast to get to 1/2 speed (either a blue wire version cable tied to the chassis OR ceramic version that is bolted to the passenger side chassis under the filter) Also the switch can be an issue BUT it is rebuild/cleanable.
The handbrake warning has a SD1 switch IN the handbrake quadrant (mare that IF over pulled and damages itself).
pictures to follow.

Hmm, the wiper issue could be the park switch in the motor gearbox (though I've never had an issue on my cars), a grotty contact in the wiper switch itself as the current flow is a bit torturous, or a failing electrolytic capacitor in the wiper delay unit. Maybe even a high-resistance earth, or possibly dirty commutator/worn brushes in the wiper motor.

There's a circuit diagram here which may help (or may just confuse you further)...

https://wedgeneering.co.uk/Wash-wipe%20electrics.h...

It's almost always something simple with electrics/electronics, it's just the search that can be drawn-out.

Had the same issue with the wipers on my 200 and it was the park switch on the motor. The motor is accessible from under the passenger footwell. Unfortunately you may struggle for a replacement switch. The motor is ‘similar’ to a TR7 motor but the switch is in a different place due to the different sweep of the motor.
I’ve not had any issues with the blower motor but if you are blowing fuses my guess would be a problem in the motor. I think it’s a dash out job to get access.. sounds bad but it’s not too difficult.
The handbrake switch is accessible after removing the centre trim panel… again not too difficult.

I hear what you are saying...but, I build wiper motors (every version ever fitted to any TVR) and I too think you will struggle to replace the park switch on the 16W (I have a conversion unit that separates the brush plate from the park switch on rebuild, that I use in emergencies, BUT it is not a part that I change normally as they are so robust) SO, do not give up on it just yet, I have only rebuilt 25-30 of them over the last 20 years.
I bench tested my motor to find that the dynamic parking was back feeding the Pektron unit and randomly stalling the arm and I had to replace the Pektron. A@

I've got to admit I'm no auto electrician and most of your replies on the wiper issues are way over my capabilities and / or understanding. Unfortunately the auto electrician I used for years for my old V8 MGB has retired and moved abroad so it looks like I need a new auto electrician. At least when I find one I can let them see your replies which should hopefully assist them in resolving my issues.
As for the blower motor , if its a dash out job , I'll wait till later in the year when the car is off the road for the winter.
Thanks again for your help.
