Sorry Marcus I gave the one I had to Mr Tank. If the worst come to the worst I think Burton Engines sell new ones. Not cheap mind.

Cheers Roy, i'll order that up.
Not sure what its made from, but i'll look into welding it and keep it, i'm sure it'll get someone out of a spot in the future.
Cheers guys

I think the original were cast...I have bought newly manufactured ones from Motomobil in Germany and they were steel although i broke a lug off similar to that as there was a fault in the steel...They did replace it..

Its also best to use new bolts and be careful when you are torquing them up...Also use plenty of sealant on both sides of the gasket and allow to cure overnight once you have warmed it up test for any leaks and tighten 1/4 turns only....Ziga

Cast steel is OK to weld so long as it's not too high carbon.

Cheers Stu,
I've ordered one from Burton Power, hopefully i wont over tighten that one.
Dont know how i managed it, but from looking at the gasket i think the stat has slipped and caught between the housing and i've not noticed and tightened it up.
Thats what i get for rushing a job in the freezing cold, sleet and wind. Oh how i wish for a heated garage......dear santa.

I believe they are cast aluminium, as the timing cover itself is cast iron.

Did the same on my 2.8 and snapped that rear cover. At the time there was no supply of new ones, so my dad got a work colleague to weld it back up.Bloody good job he done of it too biggrin

Use some gasket tack to make sure the t-stat stays in place. If it slips down/out a bit, it causes the cap to hang up on the lip of the t-stat and the lug to break when tightened. Very hard to see/feel the problem. Another place where 3 hands would help. Grady

It's all too easy to strip the threads on the rear cover too - I've seen a few bodges on them !!

I did a 'proper' bodge with extra long bolts and nuts on the back, it *just* fits, but you have to file down one of the nuts to get it in, but it does work....

Yeah, lots of gasket sealer and a gentle hand......

I'll give this a go as a temp measure. Dont fancy leaving it for another couple of weeks in this temp without at least turning it over.
Unless anyone wants to send up a sub till i get the new one!

Hi Marcus...You could try some 2 part JB cold weld..I used it on mine when i broke the ear off of my rear stat housing on Delilah...First make sure the housing is clean where its to be stuck, I would use a small wire brush and some clutch and brake cleaner to remove grease and key it up slightly...Use a small amount as glue and some over the top of the crack and allow to go off for a day at least...Cheers..Ziga
