Alternative Door Mirrors Photo Diary Part 1
Discussion
After spending the past few weeks looking for suitable alternative to my crummy BMW M3 aftermarket door mirrors prior to my car's respray next May - I found the answer in a Fiat Stilo one day whilst out on the school run! For a decent Buy Now price of £28 inc postage. I now have a pair of door mirrors that look better in reality than the pics below do justice and represent a better alternative to the factory originals and anything else on offer IMO.
Ordered and received within 24 hours!

One of the benefits of these mirrors is that they are folding - a must for today's street parking.

The mirrors are electricaly heated and operated and connect to an ECU that can be troublesome. You will need to lose this connector if you want to keep the electric option wiring it to a new switch. Alternatively you can pick up an ECU and the troubles of Italian Electrics that come with it!! Better to get these mirrors wired in by a pro...

Reverse shot of mirror connecting plate. Note the rubber mat which will need to be discarded before fitting.

Next phase is to strip the mirror down to its component parts before shaping to the Wedge. Note the 3 wires going to the motor for moving the mirror glass - the wires for the heating have been discarded.
The outer casing is to be painted in the body colour of the car and are readily available in case there is a need for replacement at a later stage. The replacement mirror glass is also readily available and cheap to buy.

Next phase is to cut the connecting plate so it matches the profile of the leading edge of the window frame.

The moulded frame supporting the connecting threads also should be cut away leaving a flush finish ready for the bonding process.

Once the cutting and shaping is complete your mirror should look like this.

In part 2 I will cover off the bonding to the Wedge window frame, finishing and priming and the refit back onto car. Hope you enjoyed the post fellas...
